Survive and Thrive This October: Foot Health, Self-Care, and a Few Life Lessons
When Life Throws You a Curveball
One Monday morning, I woke up unable to take weight on my leg, making even sitting or standing excruciating. Despite this there was a busy clinic day ahead — the show had to go on. I treated clients while standing more than usual, used Copaiba for its calming qualities, applied Deep Blue Rub, and wore a Freedom SuperPatch.
This experience taught me just how interconnected our bodies are: my feet, knees, and even balance were affected. On top of that, I cut myself on a piece of glass and banged my head twice — but thankfully could laugh about it with my clients, many of whom are familiar with pain and understood perfectly.
By the end of the week, my leg improved enough to walk normally again — until another minor accident reminded me that pain can truly stop you in your tracks.
Practical Foot Health Tips for October
October brings colder, wetter weather, meaning enclosed shoes and boots are back in rotation. This can be a tricky transition: even shoes that were previously broken in may need re-breaking after months of storage.
Here are a few tips for keeping your feet comfortable this month:
Re-break in your shoes slowly: Wear them for short periods at home before heading out for long walks.
Choose supportive footwear: Trainers designed for outdoor exercise can keep feet dry without the need for wellies.
Moisturise and protect: Dry, damp, or colder conditions can increase hard skin or discomfort.
Embracing Self-Care
Even small additions make a big difference even if it is an essential oil to lift your mood, or taking some time to decompress with a moment to yourself.
October is the perfect time to take extra care of your feet, your body, and yourself — whether that’s easing into new footwear, enjoying a short foot massage, or simply noticing how your body feels day to day.
